Overview

Multiple sclerosis is an autoimmune disease that impacts the brain and spinal cord, which make up the central nervous system and controls everything we do. Symptoms of MS may vary from person to person but often cause numbness or weakness, electric shock sensations, and tremors.

Early signs often involve numbness or tingling in the extremities, which may indicate nerve damage. Vision issues, such as blurry sight or pain during eye movement, can signal optic nerve involvement. Patients may also experience vertigo or difficulty balancing, describing sensations like the room spinning. Less common symptoms include difficulty speaking or swallowing, seizures, and hearing loss. Due to the varied progression of MS, identifying specific early symptoms can be challenging.
